Low Carbon Living Blue Mountains brings together businesses with a shared belief in fighting climate change through practical action. It promotes and rewards those businesses that have made the choice to tackle climate change head-on through their own business operations. Furthermore, it empowers consumers to reduce their own carbon footprint by choosing businesses that have a track record in emissions reduction.

A 2016 survey carried out in the Blue Mountains found more than 80% of respondents said they would choose a business that was making an effort to reduce its carbon footprint over a comparable business that was not participating in such a program. More than 60% of respondents said that they would be more likely to visit a destination that was known for being a low carbon destination.
