Tracy Ponich is a fine art photographer based in Katoomba. The Blue Mountains environment is often the subject of her photographs, but she also works around Australia and overseas. Tracy creates limited edition photographic prints of gardens, landscapes, street scenes and portraiture. She carries out the entire capture-to-print process of her photographs, the latter from her studio, called Feathermark.
Sustainability is central to Tracy’s practice. She is deeply concerned about climate change and the environment she loves to photograph. For several years Tracy has planted native trees through donations to Trees For Life. She is well into several hundred managed trees now, all documented. She plants a tree for each photographic work sold, and more for activities such as exhibitions and book production.
Tracy’s goal is to be carbon neutral. She has outfitted her studio with energy efficient lighting and heating. All equipment, including her wide format Epson printer, is highly energy efficient. Solar panels generate the electricity she uses, and also charge her car. She drives a PHEV (plug in hybrid electric vehicle) to and from her work away from the studio.
Tracy’s studio is virtually zero waste. She recycles everything possible and avoids plastic (cellophane sleeves for her cards are plant-based and compostable).
In addition to planting trees, Tracy has offset her footprint with certified carbon credits, typically she chooses avoided deforestation and biodiversity corridor projects. Living next door to World Heritage wilderness, these projects are close to her heart.
